Our Ingredient Philosophy
At Natural Paint Co, we've always been driven by a simple yet powerful mission: to create high quality paints and timber oils that are not only high-performing but also healthier for people and our planet. As we've grown, we've remained committed to prioritising natural, sustainable ingredients that set us apart in an industry that has long favoured petrochemicals and synthetic materials.
When we started this journey, we knew we wanted to do things differently. We didn't just want to make paint; we wanted to redefine what paint could be. This meant carefully selecting each ingredient with quality, performance and impact in mind. We believed paint could be better for people and for the planet.
Ultra-Low VOC Formulation
Our commitment extends to ensuring our paints are ultra-low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). With less than 5g/L of VOCs, our paints align with the strictest international standards and significantly outperform many other paint options.
This means you can paint your home without worrying about harmful chemicals seeping into the air you breathe. Best of all, our paint doesn't stink of nasty chemicals, and freshly painted rooms are safe to use immediately!
Non-Toxic, Natural Ingredients
We've prioritised non-toxic, natural ingredients in our formulations. This includes:
Plant-based resins: Unlike conventional paints that rely on petrochemical-based resins, we've chosen a resin made up of more than 75% renewable materials.
Natural minerals: We use natural minerals like calcium carbonate and titanium dioxide, sourced responsibly and processed with minimal environmental impact.
Essential oils: We incorporate natural essential oils, reducing the need for synthetic biocides. One of our star ingredients is New Zealand Mānuka Oil, known for its powerful antimicrobial properties.
Our Stand on Controversial Ingredients
We've taken a firm stance against several controversial ingredients commonly found in paints:
Silica: We don't use crystalline silica in any of our paints.
Dryers: We've developed our formulations to avoid harmful dryers like cobalt compounds.
APEOs: Our paints are free from alkylphenol ethoxylates, which are known endocrine disruptors.
Biocides: We minimise biocide usage and do not use toxic biocide methylisothiazolinone biocide in any of our products. We rely natural alternatives wherever possible.
