What do you need?

• Primer/undercoat: Depending on your cabinets, you’ll want either our Undercoat (for conventional wooden cabinets) or our Specialty Undercoat (for laminate cabinets). We always recommend a light sand before applying the undercoat – regardless of the material.

• Enamel Paint: Incredibly durable, low-VOC paint perfect for cabinets. Your biggest battle is going to be picking a colour. Choose something neutral like Shell to complement other colours or timber, a lovely grey-green like Mindfulness, or go bold with a fan-favourite accent like Tree Hugger.

Proper preparation is essential for a smooth and long-lasting finish. Follow these steps:

1. Clean the Cabinets: Remove any dirt, grease, or grime from the cabinet surfaces using a mild detergent and warm water. Always do a spot test first to make sure you aren’t causing any damage.

2. Sand the Surfaces: Lightly sand the cabinets to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to. It’s all in the prep work!

3. Fill Dents and Cracks: Use a wood filler to repair any dents or cracks. Or don’t if you don’t care about dents and cracks…wabi-sabi anyone?

4. Prime the Cabinets: Apply a coat of your previously selected primer to the entire surface. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding. We know – so much waiting. So worth it though.

Painting Your Cabinets

1. Choose Your Colour: Select a colour that complements your kitchen's style and complements your home's overall decor. We have an extensive range – with something for everyone. Order some test pots and try your hand at a swatch or two to help you decide (or don’t – we won’t tell you what to do)

2. Apply the Paint: Use a high-quality paintbrush or roller to apply the paint in thin, even coats. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. We have some great rollers and brushes available if you don’t have some old faithful ones already!

3. Protect the Hardware: Remove the cabinet hardware and store it safely. Once the paint is dry, reattach the hardware.
